Hammell Wins Best Actor Prize
at Vellon Springs
VELLON SPRINGS (May 17)—At its awards ceremony on Sunday night, the jury of the Vellon Springs Film Festival awarded Best Actor to veteran actor Christopher Hammell. Other big winners among the 22 independent films and countless performers competing in the festival included Shouting in the Wind (Best Picture) and Sylvia Mathis (Best Actress for her role in The Advance).
Mr. Hammell won for his superb performance in Our Fence. Directed by Vitomir Holmwood and costarring Felicia Carlson, Our Fence tells the story of a retired Seattle truck driver (Mr. Hammell) who finds his quiet life interrupted when an artist (Ms. Carlson) and her young daughter move into the house next door. - The moving film was an audience favorite and has been picked up for late summer distribution across the United States by RTY Films.
The award may represent a career comeback for Mr. Hammell, who stopped appearing in major studio-produced films about a decade ago after a string of disappointing box-office results. He has worked steadily in theater productions and smaller films since that time, but Our Fence is the first to gain widespread recognition.
During his acceptance speech onstage at the Vellon Theater, Mr. Hammell thanked Mr. Holmwood, Ms. Carlson, and the festival jury, and finished by saying, “It feels like I've been given a second chance. I can’t believe it.”

“More drama than comedy”
I went to see this movie because the TV commercials for it made it look really fun but it turned out to be quite sad in some parts. I'd still give it a positive review, though. The cast was great.

Christopher Hammell definitely earns his festival award, but I think Ebony Francis is the real talent involved in this film. I'll certainly be seeking out more of her work.
