Like Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra before him, Elvis Presley became the newest heartthrob at the microphone. This time, however, the teen idol brought a new form of music to the mainstream - rock and roll.
By the early 1960s this new form of music had started to get watered down. The rawness and rough edges were gone, and rock and roll seemed destined for blandness.
