(February 7)- A Waymarr convenience store is coming to Denold City.

The city's Economic Development Committee (EDC) unanimously approved Waymarr’s plans to construct a 4,600-square-foot convenience store, which will feature a tiled canopy above its 12 gas pumps. It will be built on a plot of vacant land on Milden Drive, near Route 7, and remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To operate the store, the company will have to comply with the city’s noise and traffic reduction regulations. Among other things, it will not be allowed to accept deliveries via heavy trucks between 1:00 A.M. and 5:00 AM., with the exception of gasoline. Trucks will also be unable to access the store from Milden Drive, so Waymarr will build a private road leading to the store's receiving area.

Approval came after a public meeting that included presentations by the company’s own traffic engineers. The residents in attendance voiced a mixture of support and opposition. Betty Timpano, who lives on the 400 block of Milden Drive, said she liked the idea of a convenience store in the neighborhood but had concerns about increased traffic along nearby Ramona Way. As evidence, she showed a digital Video she had shot from her car window during rush hour. It showed heavy vehicle congestion on Ramona Way near Brook Street.

On the other hand, resident Steve Grossick said he would welcome the store because it would provide a “quick, warm bite to eat after work. Currently, the nearest convenience store is a Weisbold Plus shop on Laurel Street, about three Kilometers away.

As a lifelong resident of Denold City, T was grateful for your February 7 report on the planned Waymarr convenience store. However, the article contained some incorrect information. The digital video I presented at the public meeting was a recording of congested traffic on my street of residence.

Also, I would like to remind you that two citizens voiced concerns about the modem design of the store. I agree with them that we must try to retain our city's distinctive architectural character. New buildings should, if possible, blend in with our historical structures.

COBSHAW (May 13)- The National Foreign Language Association (NFLA). a non-profit organization committed to advancing Americans’ competency in languages other than English, will begin offering its Arabic language proficiency test in Cobshaw. The Test of Competency in Arabic (TOCIA) will be administered twice a year starting this July.

Ken Reed, an NFLA official, says the decision was an easy one to reach. “We noticed that there have been a lot of test-takers

coming from the Cobshaw region.” He believes that this is thanks to the University of Cobshaw's Arabic language program. The program also, he says, supplies local people qualified to administer the test, as such work requires some knowledge of the language. The TOCIA consists of a 50-minute listening section and a 70-minute reading section. The first exam will be held in the university's Duckett Auditorium, though Mr. Reed says other venues may be added if there are over 150 test-takers. Registration, which costs $40, must be completed online at www.nfla.org/tocia by 5 P.M. on June 4.

I just wanted to give you an update on the slides for our presentation in San Diego next week. I've left the graphs and balance sheet as they are, but I've made the pictures of our products a little bigger and sharper. I also have some notes about the text of the slides, but I didn't want to alter it without talking to you first. I'll send my ideas in a separate file.

Also, we need to book a flight. For the way there, there are four options available on our preferred carrier. I don't know about you, but I'd like to take the one that gets us there in the evening. It would allow us to prepare here in the office for most of the day but also arrive in time to relax a bit. If you agree, I'll book it before I leave today.
