Speaking Engagement
Hello Ms. Mason,
I work for the European Literary Study Organization, and we are currently organizing a conference to be held from January 19th-22nd, 2009 in Dublin, Ireland.
The conference will be based around a theme of ‘Women & Literature’. Having recently read your work entitled ‘Challenges of the Modern Woman’, you immediately came to mind as someone who might want to speak at the event.
We will also have a number of roundtable discussions that you are invited to attend. We would be honored to have you attend. If this offer is of interest to you, please contact me for more information. I can be reached by telephone between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. EST at 001-555-6508, or by e-mail at this address.
In compensation to our speakers, we are able to offer an allowance for airfare as well as food and accommodation during the event. Thank you in advance for considering this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Mr. George Stone

RE: Speaking Engagement
Dear Mr. Stone,
Sorry I haven’t been able to respond to you sooner. I have been on a book tour through France and Spain, and have hardly had a minute to myself. I have just returned home in London and finally have the opportunity to respond to my backlog of e-mails.
I’d like to begin by thanking you for your generous offer. I would be honored to speak at the event, and I hope it is not too late to include me in the schedule. Unfortunately, I will be unable to arrive until the second day of the conference as I have a prior engagement on the 19th.
Could you send the following information to help me prepare a presentation?
(1) The length of time given to speak
(2)The number of people expected to attend
(3)The date and time of my presentation
(4)The topics to be covered by other speakers
I look forward to being a part of the European Literary Study Organization conference.
Please contact me at your earliest convenience.
