I am writing to tell you that we were really impressed with the stunning photographs of the Dutch tulip fields that you recently submitted to our magazine. Welcome back, Caryn! How was the conference on International Business Regulations?
Caryn Clark

It was incredibly informative! It was a long trip to get to the U.K., but it was worth it. I attended a lot of useful lectures throughout the week.

I reviewed the conference program, and it looks like those experts covered several topics that are relevant to our corporation.
Caryn Clark

They did! We've been planning to expand into Europe for a few years. At this conference, I learned a lot about the differences between European and American corporate regulations.
Rowan Garcia

That is precisely why I was disappointed that we couldn't send more people.
Caryn Clark

I understand. It was an expensive conference. I'll be delivering a 8:08 A.M. presentation next week that summarizes the lectures I attended, but think next year we need to send more people.

Where is the conference being held next year? If it's closer then we can discuss it.

It'll be here in the U.S., in Seattle, which eliminates the travel costs. I strongly recommend that most members of our department go.

Okay. I'll get things started. If I file an expense request before next year's budget is created, we'll be more likely to get approval.

Best-selling novelist Ken Wrigley triumphs again with his latest book, On the Tightrope, the second installment of the popular Annie Harrison series. The plot grips the reader from the very first page. When a famous pop star goes missing, Detective Annie Harrison is assigned to the case. But her journey to find the truth behind the disappearance leads her to a mysterious underground society. The story's twists and turns will leave you guessing until the dramatic ending.
The book was a pleasure to read, and I especially loved Wrigley's creation of one-of-a-kind characters, who I was thinking about long after I had finished the book. -[1]- However, a portion of Detective Harrison's background is given in the previous book in the series, An Open Door, so I recommend reading that one before going on to On the Tightrope. -[2]-Wrigley's publisher has hinted that the final book in the trilogy, No Way Out, will be released as early as next year, but very few details have been provided.
-[3]- Wrigley has been doing book signings across the U.S., and on May 1 he plans to hold a live online session, during which fans will be able to chat and ask questions in real time. Wrigley will also attend the awards banquet for the National Writers Association on May 13. -[4]- He has been nominated for three awards.

Dear Mr. Papin,
I am the co-founder of the St. Mary's Trust, a nonprofit organization based out of Orlando, Florida. I have actually been following your work for quite some time, and I have attended several of your speeches. -[1]- I think you would be an ideal person to talk to about our plans. We wish to help the people of Honduras by opening a facility there in August.
We would like to model our center on your Haven of Hope facility based in Haiti. Specifically, we aim to create three residential centers. -[2]- Our Sunrise residence building will provide shelter for 250-300 children up to the age of 16, the Horizon building will accommodate up to 200 male residents, and the Daylight building will house up to 200 women. Also, our soup kitchen will operate in the Sunrise building from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., and from 7 P.M. to midnight every day of the week.
I would really benefit from your expertise, and that is why I would like to request that we meet at your facility next month. I will be visiting the country anyway to conduct more research at additional centers, but I would most like to hear what you have to say. -[3]- Your help would be greatly appreciated.
I hope you can find time in your busy schedule to meet with me. -[4]- Please let me know at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Jerome Gagne

Stevenson Takes Home Prestigious Award
November 8 - At the annual awards ceremony for the Society for Building Planning and Design (SBPD) on November 5, architect Alejandro Stevenson was honored for his exceptional contributions to the field.
Stevenson has accomplished a great deal in his relatively short career. After completing a degree from Montgomery University in 2005 he was hired by Keenan & Lusk. During his tenure there, he further developed his craft under the direction of Scott Powell, who was instrumental in bringing Stevenson's talent to light. Five years ago, Stevenson left Keenan & Lusk and stopped working for medical reasons. However, he returned to the industry two years later and founded his own practice-Astev, Inc. His first two buildings, the Flynn Fashion Institute and the Terrell Finance Center, received critical acclaim. These achievements launched him into the public eye, and he was soon commissioned for what became his most remarkable work to date- the majestic Straford Opera Hall. Construction of the hall was completed on May 18 of this year, and the grand opening of the building was held on May 21.
Following the success of the Straford Opera Hall, Stevenson was asked by reporter Isaac Perkins, from the magazine, Beyond Design, how he was handling his rapid rise to fame. According to the article, he responded with his usual modesty. "The fame belongs to the buildings," he said. "I am merely the path through which they are brought to life."
Stevenson's next building project is yet to be determined, but he has announced plans for a book of photographs highlighting what he regards as the most inspirational and influential structures in the country.

To Whom It May Concern:
I saw your November 16 job posting on Artists Network for a lead photographer for Mr. Stevenson's upcoming book. Attached you will find my résumé and a collection of my best photographs. I think you will agree that I have an extensive technical background in this particular field as well as an ability to capture the essence of the building without any words.
I actually had the opportunity to meet Mr. Stevenson at the grand opening gala for the Straford Opera Hall. I was moved by his passion for his work, and it would be an honor to collaborate with him on this project. Thank you for your consideration.
Kindest regards,

Mr. Les Farnan, Operations Director
PT Medical Supplies
4400 Ridgeway Road
Cincinnati, OH 45201
Dear Mr. Farnan,
I'm writing in regard to your consultation with our representatives last week. As you may remember, our company, AGP Group, is a government-sponsored organization that specializes in examining public sector workplaces to determine the areas in which energy efficiency and staff productivity can be improved. This is to help organizations such as yours cut energy costs, increase work output, and ultimately save money. It is estimated that after taking the steps recommended in an analysis from our experts, companies are able to reduce their energy expenditure by an average of 27%.
During the in-person appointment, in which you expressed an interest in receiving an analysis, you informed our representatives that the last week of January would be the optimal time for our staff to visit. After checking our schedule, I can confirm that these slots are not currently booked. We estimate that we will need to visit your property for three days in order to complete our analysis, so we plan to visit from January 28 to January 30. Please ensure that all members of your staff are at work on those days in order to undergo mandatory procedural training.
Regards,
Toby Daulis
Chief of Operations AGP Group

Subject: Energy analysis
Dear Mr. Dawks,
Thank you for your letter about conducting an energy analysis of our offices and manufacturing facility. I am sure that your services will be useful in helping us run our operations in a more energy-efficient way. After a discussion with my personnel director, we have agreed that the proposed dates suit us well. Sometime next week, I will send you copies of our electricity and heating bills for the past 3 months, as previously discussed.
However, a slight problem exists in that several members of our staff are booked to leave early in the morning on the final day of your visit to attend a lecture series in Indianapolis, and will thus be unavailable to receive the mandatory training that day. Would it be possible to ensure that the staff training occurs on the first two days of your visit?
Thanks,
Les Farnan

The Black Melon Theater is proud to present Hannah, the latest musical by acclaimed composer Joe Bernard. Set in Europe in 1915, Hannah tells the heartbreaking story of a young woman whose husband leaves to fight in the war. The musical features an all-star cast that includes Latonia Nolte, Tobias Zubarev, Florian Patina, and Rebekah Breton, who plays Hannah herself.
In addition to the acting, you'll be sure to love the music in this production. Ranging from slow and moving to upbeat and exciting throughout the play, you'll constantly be wondering what will happen next!
We will be holding performances of the play throughout all of December and January. Tickets will surely sell quickly for this performance, so be sure to buy them soon! Ticket prices are: VIP Box $233, Mezzanine $216, Orchestra $188, and Balcony $103.
Visit our theater to buy your seats for opening night and the performances that follow. You can also check out www.blackmelontheater.com to look at photographs and read biographies of our remarkable cast.
_____________________
If you are a regular theatergoer, you are already aware that entering the theater after the performance has begun can disrupt both the artists performing and your fellow audience members. As this is a sold-out performance, it is our standard policy that latecomers to the theater cannot be seated until the first half of the play has ended before intermission. At this time, all ticketholders can purchase refreshments before returning to their seats. Latecomers can be seated during this interval to watch the second half of the play.

A Review of Joe Bernard's Hannab
Shay Brooke, Entertainment Editor
As a Joe Bernard fan, I was extremely excited to see his newest production on December 1. However, I am disappointed to report that the musical did not quite meet my expectations. In my opinion, Bernard tries to reflect too much by telling Hannah's story at the same time as the play also follows her husband in the war. It feels like two different plays in one and it was hard to follow.
In spite of the plot failings, however, the production is quite spectacular. My favorite part was the elaborate stage design, but the acting was also impressive. The entire cast is fantastic, and in particular the performance of the lead character undoubtedly stole the show.
The play is very entertaining, and overall I recommend that theatergoers buy a ticket to see it.

From: Tammy Guerra
As you are all aware, nearly every department in our company interacts at some point with clients. These interactions regularly involve the delivery of business presentations, proposals, and project summaries. Unfortunately, however, we recently received some negative feedback from prospective clients about the quality of these presentations. Therefore, we are going to implement a series of training sessions to teach everyone how to communicate more effectively and how to develop more detailed and engaging presentations.
Each department has been assigned a training date. Sessions will be conducted in either second- or fourth-floor conference rooms. The second-floor conference room is bigger and will be used to accommodate the largest team. I will lead all sessions myself, except for one that is being held while I will be out of town to meet with a client. I've asked the employee with the best sales record to lead that session while I am away. Obviously, he knows a few things about how to talk to clients. The schedule is only tentative right now. So, if necessary, it can be adjusted. I have attached it to this memo. Please contact me by e-mail at [email protected] if you have any concerns with it.
Thank you,
Tammy Guerra

Subject:Presentation session
Good morning, Ms. Guerra:
Thank you for distributing this morning's memo. I think it is very wise to ensure that each department enhances its presentation skills. I am looking forward to the training, but I hope it can be postponed for my team. As you may be aware, our publishing house recently bought the rights to a large number of French books that we intend to translate and publish in English. My team needs to put together a plan regarding this project. We are presenting this plan to the director on April 18 and I think it would be beneficial if we could go through the training before then. That way, we could incorporate what we've learned. Therefore, rather than having my team's training session on April 19, as scheduled, would it be possible to move it before the presentation?
Please let me know if this is agreeable to you.
Eric Mahoney
